Steven Mukwala made it so beautiful – Kotoko boss Ogum reacts to Super Clash victory

Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh Ogum heaped praise on striker Steven Mukwala following his standout performance in the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

The Ugandan international led the Porcupine Warriors to a crucial 2-0 victory at the Baba Yara Stadium, scoring both goals and lifting the team up the league table.

The 24-year-old forward demonstrated his skill and composure, outsmarting the Hearts of Oak defenders to secure the win. Mukwala opened the scoring in the ninth minute by latching onto a long pass and evading his markers to slot the ball home. He sealed the victory in stoppage time with another brilliant effort, again outmaneuvering the defence before placing a precise strike into the net.

Coach Ogum expressed his delight with Mukwala’s performance, emphasising the striker’s responsiveness to his guidance.

I’m very happy. Beating Hearts of Oak back-to-back is not an easy job, so I’m happy. It’s an honor for this group of players. It’s been a while since I think this thing happened. I’m not very sure when this happened, but it’s been a while and you could see when the final whistle was blown,” Ogum said.

And I think Steve [Mukwala] made it so beautiful. As I said before the game, I engaged him and I think he has lived up to the task. It’s good for us. I’m even short of words,” a smiling Ogum added after the victory.

With his brace, Steven Mukwala now has 14 goals this season, putting him in contention for the top scorer award. He is just one goal behind Berekum Chelsea’s Stephen Amankona, who leads the race with 15 goals.

The win propelled Kotoko to the ninth position on the league table after 31 matches, with 43 points. They are now five points away from the top four, and with three matches remaining in the season, the record winners of the Ghana Premier League have a chance to finish in a respectable position.
