Former BBC sports journalist and CAF Media Officer Ibrahim Sannie Daara has urged Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey to move to Saudi Arabia following his contract expiration at Arsenal.
Partey’s contract at Arsenal ran out on June 30, with the midfielder being linked to a host of clubs in the Middle East including Al Hilal and Al-Ahli.
Partey, who joined Arsenal in 2020, from Atletico Madrid, officially became a free agent on July 1 after contract negotiations between Arsenal and the player stalled.
Besides the interest from Arabia, Spanish giants Barcelona as well as Turkish sides Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are showing strong interest in the Ghanaian.
Speaking about Partey’s next move on Sports Station, Sannie Daara, who specialises in transfers of Ghanaian players abroad, provided clarity on Partey’s situation while urging him to consider a move to the Middle East.
“The interest from Saudi Arabia has been true. And even one more clubs in Saudi Arabia have been added to the clubs that were originally interested in him. And there are some other clubs also in France and in Italy interested in him. After 5th July, he can now have the focus to look at his next destination,” he said.
But let’s give him these moments for the next few days to run out and we’ll see him playing for a good club. But for me, my advice to Thomas, and I’ve told him this thing personally, my advice to him is that at his age, he should look at what he will spend from now until the rest of his life. The money from Saudi Arabia is tempting. I think he should go for the Saudi money, it will help him,” he added.
Partey played 167 games for Arsenal while contributing to 16 goals (9 goals, 7 assists) in five years.
