Ghana signs MoU with India for joint cooperation in vaccine production, defence and cyber security

Ghana and India have signed a Memorandum of Understand for joint cooperation in the areas of vaccine production, defense and cyber security as well as agriculture.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is on a two-day State Visit to Ghana praised the efforts of President Mahama at resetting Ghana and championing African democracy.

The Prime Minister was later given the highest state award of the land on July 2.

“It is the first leg in the Africa visit of His Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modion his five-nation tour, which ends in the BRIC summits in Brazil.The two sides have engaged in significant discussions to deepen cooperation across varioussectors of our economy, including agriculture, energy, manufacturing, infrastructural development, human resources, and health, amongst others,” President Mahama said.

He noted that, “On the strength of the successful engagements, we have had a number of memoranda of understandingsigned between Ghana and India to give impetus to our commitment and aspirationsfor sustained and enhanced cooperation.

These include the memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a permanent jointcommission between our two countries.Going forward, Ghana and India intend to pursue these engagements through diplomatic mechanisms,including foreign office consultations with each other, as well as the permanent jointcommission for cooperation, to give effect to the intended outcomes of our engagementfor mutual benefit.”

Speaking through an interpreter, Prime Minister Modi assured of full support and cooperation in President Mahama’s efforts to reset the economy.

Today, we have taken a decision to double the ITEC and ICCR scholarships for Ghana. Work will be done to establish a school development center to impart vocational education to the youth.In the area of agriculture, we will be happy to support President Mahama’s Feed Ghana program,” the Prime Minister assured.
He added that, “India proposes setting up Jan Aushadhi centers to provide citizens of Ghana with affordablehealth care and reliable care.We discussed cooperation in vaccine production.In the area of defence and security, we will move forward following the mantra securitythrough solidarity.”

“We will increase our cooperation in areas such as the training of armed forces, maritimesecurity, defence supplies and cyber security,” India’s Prime Minister further promised.
