Kwesi Appiah

Sudan’s Ghanaian assistant coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu has described Kwesi Appiah as the best Ghanaian coach of the last decade.

Osei-Fosu believes no Ghanaian coach has matched Appiah’s impact over the past 10 years. Appiah’s notable achievements include guiding Ghana to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Recently, Appiah added another feather to his cap by leading Sudan to the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. Osei-Fosu, who works alongside Appiah, praised his achievements.

“Kwesi Appiah is the best Ghanaian coach in the last 10 years,” Osei-Fosu told 3Sports.

Sudan secured qualification by taking four points from Ghana in the qualifiers, including a crucial 2-0 win in Libya. However, the victory against Ghana was bittersweet for Appiah and his assistant.

“I was sad, likewise Kwesi Appiah, after we won in Libya against Ghana. I walked straight to the dressing room and couldn’t utter a word,” Osei-Fosu admitted.

Appiah, appointed in September 2023, has transformed Sudan’s fortunes as they also lead their group in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, ahead of favourites like Senegal.
