Actress and Author, Yvonne Nelson‘s recently published memoir, ‘I AM NOT YVONNE NELSON’ has been the topic of discussion among literary enthusiasts and critics alike.

On the Entertainment review segment of TV3’s NewDay, Dr. Ike Tandoh, a Communications expert also shared his perspective on the book, highlighting the emotional aspect that may have influenced Nelson’s writing.

While acknowledging that he has not read the book in its entirety, Dr. Tandoh believes that Yvonne Nelson’s motive in writing the memoir was not to vilify anyone, whether it be her mother or Sarkodie.

“I have not read the book from cover to cover but from the little piece that I read I don’t think the motive was to paint someone as the devil in the book whether the mother or Sarkodie,” he disclosed

He, however, suggested that her emotions may have overwhelmed her during the writing process, leading to certain passages that could have been better approached or omitted.

“It’s just that probably her emotions took the better part of her in terms of what to write. I said somewhere that If I was the editor or proofreader for the book probably I could have stopped certain things from being published because someone did it for me,” he said.

Drawing from his own experience as an author, Dr. Tandoh mentioned how his editor helped him reconsider certain aspects of his own book, particularly regarding an issue with his father.

“My editor said, ‘Hey 10 years to come can you sit back and say this is what you said about your dad’s issue’ and I thank God that my editor helped me to take that part out and now my daddy is fine he’s seating at home watching me,” he recounted.

Dr. Tandoh further emphasized that while pouring one’s heart out in writing, emotions can sometimes take over, leading to unintended consequences.

“So emotions while you are trying to pour your heart out, can lead this way. Communication is also culture, our culture has not come to accept that Tell-it all kind of book writing that’s why that surprise element is in there and everyone wants to read. I don’t think she was on a destructive path when writing the book,” he confirmed.
