My new haircut marks a new beginning away from Lynx – Kuami Eugene

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Kuami Eugene has disclosed that his choice to put on a new hair cut distinctive from what his usual style marks a new beginning in his musical career following his exit from Lynx Entertainment.

In an interview with Doreen Avio on YouTube, the Monica hitmaker clarified that the his new style goes beyond just a new look.

He claimed that this ushers him into a new stage of his development on both a personal and professional level.

“I woke up one morning and it’s been a long time, when I got signed to Lynx. It’s been changing hairstyle from one hairstyle to another hairstyle, but I’ve not had a down cut for a very long time, for about six years. I’ll twist it, then I will do this and I will unbraid it, leaving the afro. I changed it just to show a new look and the fact that it’s a new beginning for me from Lynx. It’s a transition from the Lynx boy to your family, sweet boy Kwami Eugene,” he said.

The award-winning artiste also revealed that plans to leave Lynx had been in the works for a while, even before the public got to know.

He said that at the moment he released Monica, talks were already in progress towards his exit from the record label.

“I wasn’t the first person to put it out there that I left Lynx. Richie did that actually, so after he announced that I’ve left Lynx Entertainment on his account, I had a lot of calls but people didn’t know from Monica time, we were in talk for exit a long time ago. When I had Monica playing, I was partially out of Lynx a long time but I just didn’t want to come put it out there and when I had Belinda, I was not even at Lynx at all,” he stated.

Kuami Eugene also addressed public reactions and comments from fellow industry players following his exit from the label.

He acknowledged both the support and criticism he has received, citing notable personalities such as A Plus and MC Portfolio, who have publicly praised his talent and potential.

“I had a lot of calls after Richie said that and then I had to explain myself to people that I’ve actually done eight years under Lynx Entertainment. It’s been a beautiful journey and I’ve heard what everybody’s saying. A lot of people are happy. I remember A Plus said something that with Kwame’s talent, if he gets the chance to be on his own with the proper management, he’ll become a very big person one day,” he said.

He also reacted to criticism from rapper Guru, who had suggested that his exit from Lynx could cause some challenges.

“Guru made the comment about me flopping when I’m out of Lynx but he’s a president now. He’s the president of the University of Ghana SRC. I respect that so much, for that sake, I don’t have anything to say about Guru because I respect him so much. I used to go and watch his concerts so it’s a shame when he brought the fight from Richie to me. Then again, he’s a president now and I don’t think as a president, if he gets another opportunity, he’ll say what he said,” he added.

Kuami Eugene, born Eugene Kwame Marfo, rose to fame after winning MTN Hitmaker in 2016 and later signed to Lynx Entertainment. He is known for hits such as AngelaWish Me Well, Open Gate, and Take Away. A recipient of multiple awards including the VGMA Artiste of the Year in 2020, Kuami has built a reputation for his songwriting skills and vocal range.
