Talented Ghanaian hiplife and Afrobeats artiste, Mr. Drew has shared the reasons behind his departure from his former music label, Highly Spiritual Records.

In a recent interview with Nana Ama Mcbrown on Onua Showtime, Mr. Drew revealed that after completing his five-year contract with the label, he felt it was time for his personal brand to progress and make its own way in the industry.

His departure puts him in the company of other artists, including Lasmid, Kurl Songs, Yaw Berk, Krymi, and King Maaga, who have also left the label but under different circumstances.

According to the ‘Seleey‘crooner, his decision to part ways with Highly Spiritual was not an easy one, but he believed it was necessary for the growth of his brand after completing his five-year contract.

“My contract was the same as all the other artistes who were signed onto the label but I feel like everyone has a purpose with which they came but as for me I’m done with my 5 years,” he revealed on the show.

Responding to show host, Nana Ama Mcbrown’s question on the details of the split between himself and Kaywa, Mr Drew disclosed that it was an amicable agreement where he mentioned that Kaywa gave his blessing for him to leave and pursue his own path.

“Kaywa gave his blessing for me to leave. In every work you do it’s contract-based, so when the time is right the contract dictates if you decide to still work with the management team or find your own footing,” he shared.

In his case, he shared that he felt that it was the right time to part ways with the management team and seek new horizons.

“For me as a person, I felt like I needed to move forward for the brand Mr Drew so I didn’t consider signing again. I feel like I’ve done 5 years it’s enough,” Mr Drew told Nana Ama Mcbrown.

Mr. Drew’s decision to leave Highly Spiritual Record after completing his five-year contract was confirmed earlier this month by label boss, Kaywa and confirmed Drew’s statement that it was indeed an amicable split even though the label had wished that he continues with them.
