Building a National Cathedral is a misplaced priority- Samini

Reggae Dancehall artist Samini has expressed his opposition to the government’s plan to construct a National Cathedral labeling it as a “misplaced priority.”

In an interview on the Day Show with Berla Mundi, the Linda hitmaker stated that the funds allocated for the National Cathedral’s construction would have been better utilised in critical areas such as healthcare, security, and agriculture.

“I’m a person that does not buy into the idea of building a National cathedral and I will say it every other day. It’s purely a misplaced priority. I wouldn’t say channel it to the arts [because] there are other areas. There is the health sector which is almost like nothing to write home about, there is security, there is rural water issue, there is agriculture which is my heart” he stated.

The singer further commended the efforts of the president, attributing the current economic difficulties to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Samini remarked that in contemporary governance, very few individuals, if any, remain untouched by corruption, except for a select few who prioritize their social standing and integrity.

He stated, “Nobody is free of corruption in today’s governance. Well, there are certain few people who would try to go through governance with no blemish because of their own self-esteem and social status sake but people are soiled whether they like it or not before the day is over”.

Samini emphasized that the president’s achievements and commitments would be evaluated upon the conclusion of his term, ultimately determining the success of his tenure in office.
