West Ham have initiated preliminary discussions to secure the signing of Mohammed Kudus, regarded as a priority target should Lucas Paquetá depart for Manchester City, as reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Positive talks have transpired on the player’s end, with Kudus demonstrating receptiveness to the prospective move. However, any approach to Ajax hinges on Paquetá’s departure.

Kudus has drawn interest from various Premier League clubs during this transfer window, with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Brighton expressing their intent. Notably, Brighton were reported to have agreed to a €40 million fee with Ajax last week.

Despite the whirlwind of transfer speculations, Kudus has showcased unwavering dedication to Ajax. His commitment is reflected in his robust training sessions and noteworthy on-field performances, as highlighted over the weekend when he netted a remarkable goal, leading Ajax to a 4-1 victory over Heracles Almelo in the Eredivisie.

Following Saturday’s match, Ajax manager Maurice Steijn conveyed his confidence in the Ghana attacking midfielder, asserting, “I have read a lot of reports about Kudus this week, but there is literally nothing right now that points to him leaving. I spoke to him this week, and he is fully focused on Ajax. He is a jewel for Ajax.”

Ajax are prepared to part ways with Kudus for the appropriate valuation after the player declined a one-year contract extension offer in April. Kudus joined Ajax in 2020, amassing an impressive record of 24 goals and 11 assists.
