Party at the Duns park as GoldStars beat Lions to clinch maiden GPL title

Bibiani GoldStars beat relegation side Accra Lions 4- 0 at the Duns park to claim their first ever GPL title.
After Nations Fc faltered against Holy Stars in the last but one fixture, the home side needed just a win to welcome home their first ever title and infront of a bouncing home crowd they didn’t disappoint.
It did not take GoldStars long to break the deadlock as Abdul Farouk guided home a teasing cross just outside the box in the open four minutes of the game.
Fourteen minutes later, the newly crowned GPL winners capitalized on the sleeping defense of the away side as Kelvin Oppong scored a set piece which the Accra Lions defense failed to deal with.
The goal sent the home fans to frenzy as they felt they were in dreamland.
After no threat from both side after the entertaining open 14 minutes meant the home side went to the halftime break with a hefty 2-0 lead.
The second half saw the home side miss numerous chances but the party wouldn’t complete without a goal from the man who has been behind the GoldStars success this season.
Atta Kumi scored the third goal to ensure the home team have full hands on the trophy.
Frimpong Manso’s side added the fourth to add icing on the cake.
The goal was his 11th of the season leaving him as the team’s top scorer.
The win means GoldStars become just the third consecutive team to win their maiden GPL title following the footsteps of Medeam who won it in 2023 and Samartex who won it 2024 keeping the first timers win story alive in the competitions storied history.
They also become the third team to win the GPL from the Western side following the success of Medeama and Samartex.
