Medeama SC skipper Vincent Atinga has been crowned the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season’s Best Player at the inaugural Ghana Football Association (GFA) Awards after leading his team to clinch their maiden Ghana Premier League trophy.

Atinga beat off competition from his teammate Jonathan Sowah, Bibiani Gold Stars striker Abednego Tetteh who won the top goal scorer award, Former Bechem United striker Hafiz Konkoni who now plays for Tanzanian giants Young African, Sampson Eduku and Michel Otou.

The former Hearts of Oak centre-back was a crucial figure for the Yellow and Mauves as they rallied from beneath the top half to leapfrog Aduana Stars and eventually win the trophy in the final stages of the competition.

Beyond his tackling and blocking abilities, he added goal-scoring to his game netting 11 times and finishing eighth on the top scorer’s chart as the defender with most goals.

Atinga was therefore given a cash prize of GHC 20,000 cedis and a 43-inch television set.

In other categories of the Ghana Premier League, Medeama SC coach Evans Augustine Adotey won the coach of the season while Felix Kyei won the goalkeeper of the season.

Accra Lions’ Abass Samari was adjudged Discovery of the Season with the goal of the season award going to Kotoko’s Serge Eric Zeze. Abednego Tetteh clinched the top scorer of the season with Medeama SC winning the overall best team of the season.
