LA Galaxy has announced the signing of Black Stars winger Joseph Paintsil on a four-year designated player contract.

The 26-year-old was in Los Angeles last week to finalise the deal with his agent Tony Appiah as reported earlier by 3news.

As a Designated Player, Paintsil is expected to earn outside the MLS salary cap for players.

LA Galaxy General Manager Will Kuntz expressed his excitement about the acquisition. He highlighted Paintsil’s contributions to KRC Genk and the Ghana national team.

“Joseph has been a key member of one of the best clubs in Belgium’s top flight and one of Africa’s most prominent national teams over the past few years and we are thrilled to announce that he is joining the LA Galaxy.”

The unveiling of Paintsil was accompanied by a video featuring the player’s song, “Unbreakable,” showcasing his versatility and multi-talented nature.

Known for his dynamic style of play, Paintsil has been a standout forward for Ferencvarosi, Ankaragucu, and KRC Genk since 2018, amassing an impressive record of 96 goals in 228 games.

The Ghana winger spent six successful years with KRC Genk, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s success, including winning a league title.

His departure from Genk marks the beginning of a new chapter as he aims to bolster LA Galaxy’s attacking lineup.

LA Galaxy had a challenging season last year, finishing 13th in the Western Conference and 26th overall. The addition of Joseph Paintsil, with his recent performances for Genk and his representation of Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations, is expected to bring a fresh and dynamic dimension to the team.

Paintsil’s move to LA Galaxy follows previous interest from English clubs, including Burnley, Leeds United, and Southampton. Despite negotiations with Burnley falling through last summer, the forward’s decision to join MLS represents a significant move in his football career, adding an international flair to the LA Galaxy squad.
