Former Asante Kotoko captain Michael Akuffo has attributed Kotoko’s recent poor form to the absence of experienced players in the squad.

Under Prosper Narteh Ogum’s management, the team has struggled to secure a victory in their last seven matches, with one draw and six losses. This string of poor results has put the coach under significant pressure.

During an interview with Kelvin Owusu Ansah on 3fm Sunrise, the former midfielder advocated for the inclusion of experienced and knowledgeable players in the squad.

He believes that the team’s lack of such individuals has been a major factor contributing to Asante Kotoko’s current slump in form.

“It all boils down to the players. Some of them are not experienced. Some of them have not played in the Premier League before and when you look at some of the loopholes in the team now I think they lack senior players in the team. Ogum’s first coming worked because the senior players were able to teach the younger ones,” he said

Although Ogum has been under the fire since the turn of form by Kotoko, the former captain and now-turned-coach has pleaded with the supporters of the club to exercise patience with him

“I will suggest to the supporters to be patient with the team. It’s part of the game, when there’s a new coach it takes time for players to adopt to the coach’s philosophy. So I will urge the supporters to have patience with the team since the team and the management have already told them they’re rebuilding,” he added.

Asante Kotoko will host league leaders FC Samartex in their next game and will hope they are able to put in a shift that would help steer the team in the right direction once again.
