Former Black Stars and Kotoko coach Charles Akonnor is determined to rejuvenate the struggling fortunes of the Porcupine Warriors when handed the opportunity.

Akonnor’s resolve comes in the wake of Kotoko’s recent challenges, as the team has failed to secure a position in the top ten of the Ghana Premier League after Matchday 26.

Following a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Dreams FC, the club faced another setback with a winless streak extending to seven games.

Disgruntled supporters have expressed their dissatisfaction with the team’s performance and are calling for Prosper Narteh Ogum to either be sacked or step down.

In response to the situation, Charles Kwabena Akonnor has expressed his willingness to take up the coaching position at Kotoko. He made this known during an interview with Akoma 87.9 FM.

“As I mentioned earlier, I traveled to gain additional knowledge about the game, so right now I’m continuing to educate myself in that area.”

“I haven’t given up, but everything will depends on the opportunity and the offer, I cannot say I’m bigger than Kotoko – he added.

CK was appointed as the head coach of Asante Kotoko replacing Paa Kwesi Fabin in 2018. He signed a two-year contract with the club running through until October 2020.

Meanwhile, the former Black Stars coach had earlier advocated for patience on behalf of Ogum believing that, the former West African Football Academy boss has what it takes to turn things around.

“I urge the fans to exercise patience,” Akonnor expressed in an interview with Akoma FM. “Ogum has a proven track record and we have faith in him to make things right. While the coach shoulders much of the criticism, it’s essential for the players to heed his instructions and elevate their performance.”

Kotoko will be facing Samartex in their next league game at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
