Ghana earned another medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Wednesday when boxer Wahid Osman advanced to the men’s light welterweight semi-finals.
Wahid defeated Antigua and Barbuda’s Alston Ryan to advance to the semi-finals, where Team Ghana are guaranteed at least a bronze medal.
Earlier in the day, Ghana’s first medal was won by Joseph Commey after he defeated New Zealand’s Alex Mukuka in the men’s featherweight quarterfinals.
However, Benjamin Azamati had to settle for fourth place in the men’s 100m final.
Azamati, who started in lane one, was narrowly edged out of a podium finish. He didn’t get off to the best of starts, and despite a late surge, it wasn’t enough to earn him a medal.
Azamati completed the race in 10.16 seconds.
Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya won gold with a time of 10.02 seconds.
South Africa’s Akani Simbine, who won in Gold Coast 2018, finished second, and Yupun Abeykoon of Sri Lanka took bronze with a time of 10.14 seconds.
Sean Safo-Antwi, on the other hand, did not qualify for the men’s 100m final.
