President of Ghana Rugby, Mr Herbert Mensah has on behalf of the Ghana Rugby Football Union heartily congratulated the newly appointed Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah.
In his statement, Mr. Mensah noted that the minister would be leading a “very important and indeed controversial portfolio, and may we wish you Godspeed and success with your herculean task”.
In the letter of congratulations reference was also made to the hosting of a World Rugby tournament awarded to Ghana Rugby after a successful bid.
“We trust and hope that, when Ghana Rugby will be hosting a world tournament in Ghana towards the end of April, we will be supporting your vision to use sport not only as a nation builder but to also fly the flag of Ghana high to the rest of the world.”
According to Mensah the tournament is not only important to Ghana Rugby, but indeed to Ghana.
“This world tournament is an ideal opportunity to showcase Ghana as the true beacon in Africa as a progressive and extremely hospitable country with world-class people, abilities and facilities to host an international tournament of this nature as good, if not better, as anyone else can,” Mensah said.
He added that it is also an opportunity for corporate and other sponsors and supporters to not only showcase their brands and products or services in Ghana, but to the whole West African Community and indeed to the world at large.
Congratulations and Godspeed
On behalf of the whole Ghana Rugby Family I would like to heartily congratulate you on your appointment as Minister to lead this very important and indeed controversial portfolio, and may we wish you Godspeed and success with your herculean task.
My administration and I have always maintained that Rugby as sport is much more than just men, women, boys and girls having fun with an oval ball on a pitch. It is rather about building character based on the values of Rugby – Integrity, Passion, Teamwork, Discipline and Respect.
We trust and hope that, when Ghana Rugby will be hosting a world tournament in Ghana towards the end of April, we will be supporting your vision to use sport not only as a nation builder but to also fly the flag of Ghana high to the rest of the world.
May we also congratulate you on your vision when you stated, “I will give equal attention to all the sporting disciplines in the country. I will not be a minister for only football. There are 40 other disciplines and I will promote all with a special desk at the ministry.”
A World Rugby tournament has been awarded to Ghana Rugby after a successful bid.
The tournament forms part of the annual Rugby tournaments in Africa that will eventually be used to determine which teams will go through to qualify for the next Rugby World Cup that will take place in Japan in 2019.
Rugby Union is the second biggest sport in the world after football. The Rugby World Cup in 2015 enjoyed a global audience of 120 million plus viewers and more than 6.6 million players across 120 countries participate in rugby on a regular basis.
The Africa Cup 1D – West 1 will take place in Ghana between 28 April 2017 and 6 May 2017 and will involve the national teams of Benin, Ghana and Togo.
The tournament is not only important to Ghana Rugby, but indeed to Ghana.
This world tournament is an ideal opportunity to showcase Ghana as the true beacon in Africa as a progressive and extremely hospitable country with world-class people, abilities and facilities to host an international tournament of this nature as good, if not better, as anyone else can.
It is also an opportunity for corporate and other sponsors and supporters to not only showcase their brands and products or services in Ghana, but to the whole West African Community and indeed to the world at large.
