Former Ghana international Fatau Dauda has praised Jojo Wollacott and backed the Charlton Athletic goalkeeper to maintain his position as the Black Stars’ number one ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
Wollacott has been the Black Stars’ first-choice keeper since October of last year, appearing in 10 games so far.
Wollacott faced criticism following Ghana’s shocking first-round exit from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in January, but he redeemed himself with an excellent performance in the Black Stars’ World Cup play-off victory over Nigeria.
“I know folks will say that he conceded a lot of goals at the Afcon but if you look closely a lot of the goals scored were not his fault.
“He is a goalkeeper who has good technique and his tactical play is also very good.
“He can play with his feet and his positioning is good as well.
“This is why he is the preferred choice of the coaches,” Dauda told Citi Sports.
The 25-year-old joined Charlton Athletic in June and hopes to play an important role for the English third-tier club next season.
