American rapper, Chance the Rapper has said that his inaugural Blackstar Line Festival which took place earlier this year is the biggest concert in Ghana’s history.

The Grammy Award winner was speaking on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon when he shared the news.

Organized by Vic Mensa and Chance The Rapper who trace their ancestry to Ghana, the highly successful event saw a legendary bill including the likes of  Erykah Badu, T Pain, Sarkodie, Vic Mensa, Dave Chappelle, Jeremih, Tobe Nwigwe, and M.anifest performing on stage.

“It was very successful, the Black Star Line Fest was magical,” revealed the ‘No Problem” rapper on an episode of the Late Night show “52,000 people showed up, the largest concert in the history of Ghana and it was way deeper than trying to do a festival in Ghana. It was an opportunity for Black people from around the world to get together and commune safely and like have some good music.”

The Free concert according to Chance will be replicated in Kingston, Jamaica, and other destinations across the world in subsequent editions.

“I am actually looking to do it again in January, myself and Vic Mensa, looking to do it again, we are actually thinking about hosting the next one in Kingston, Jamaica. We are still working it out in our head and we love the city of Accra, Ghana, and West Africa as a whole and we want to just continue to create community spaces and not make it such like stagnant thing so we are just looking any country that wants to host us ” he concluded

But responding to his claim as “the largest concert in Ghana’s history”, several pundits and fans debunked his assertion calling it “relatively successful ”

Tiktok user, da_iszy_boy ????  wrote, “Fact: It’s never the largest concert…but it’s one of the best concerts I’ve experienced as a Ghanaian”

Another user also chimed in “Lies ? that wasn’t the largest concert in Ghana, the largest concert is Freedom Wave by Shatta wale No cap”

Several sources also confirm that the Global Citizen Concert that took place in September of 2022 at the Black Star Square could actually hold the record as Ghana’s largest concert to date.
