Villarreal beat Man United 11-10 on penalties in Europa League final

Villarreal have won the Europa League following a 11-10 penalty shootout victory against Manchester United in the final on Wednesday night.

The scoreline was tied at 1-1 after extra-time after Edison Cavani scored to cancel out Gerard Moreno’s first half strike.

David De Gea missed United’s 11th kick in the epic shootout as Villarreal won the final – their manager Unai Emery’s fourth Europa League title.

Solskjaer’s side did not start well and fell behind to a soft goal from Moreno.

Cavani dragged United level 10 minutes into the second period after a Marcus Rashford shot had been deflected into his path.

United, however, failed to build on that momentum and with Villarreal timid the game traveled to penalties.

All 20 outfield players converted their penalties in an increasingly tense stadium, before Villarreal goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli blasted home his effort and then denied De Gea, who was crestfallen at the end.
