Manchester City’s struggling title defence was dealt another blow as Crystal Palace snatched a late 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

City had seemed in control after goals from Jack Grealish and Rico Lewis gave them a 2-0 lead, but Jean-Philippe Mateta’s 14th-minute pull-back goal set up a tense finish.

In stoppage time, Phil Foden brought down Mateta as he tried to clear the ball, leading to a penalty call from referee Paul Tierney. Michael Olise stepped up to take the kick and slotted it past Ederson, prompting wild celebrations from the visiting fans.

The draw marks City’s third consecutive home tie, leaving them in fourth place, three points adrift of league leaders Liverpool.

Despite still only having won once in their last 10 games, this result will feel like a victory for Crystal Palace and their manager Roy Hodgson, who were denied a win by a late Liverpool goal last week.
