Kwame Opoku and Fabio shine as Kotoko beat Liberty Professionals

Kumasi Asante Kotoko returned to winning ways in the Ghana Premier League after their exit from the CAF Champions League.

The Porcupine Warriors defeated Liberty Professionals on Matchday 8 of the Ghana Premier League when they met at the Accra Sports on Monday, January 11.

Interim head coach Johnson handed Brazilian import, Fabio Gama his first start of the season after playing few minutes against Medeama Sporting Club.

It took only 10 minutes for Asante Kotoko to get their first goal of the game. Kwame OPoku was located with a cross by Emmanuel Sarkodie in the Liberty 18-yard box which he controlled well with his chest before shooting to the far-right corner of the poles.

Nine minutes after the lead, Kwame OPoku scored to add take Kotoko’s lead to 2-0. Part of the work was done by Fabio Gama in the midfield to locate Opoku with a through ball which he showed great composure and lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper of Liberty Professionals.

The brace took Opoku’s goals tally to 5 this season.

The second half saw less chances and goalscoring opportunities as compared to the first half.

Gama lasted 82 minutes on the field and was subbed off for Nabby Keita.

The win takes the Porcupine Warriors to the 6th position with a game at hand.
