Heading into the tie, Nations were top of the league and needed to secure a win, or avoid defeat, to maintain their momentum and push for a historic first-ever title.
On the other hand, Basake needed to avoid defeat to boost their chances of staying in the Ghana Premier League beyond the ongoing season.
Nations FC abandoned the clash mid-game after what the club later described as contentious officiating calls – two penalties were awarded against them.
Nations in the aftermath of the incident released a statement, citing major reasons as to why the game was abandoned.
The latest to wade-in on the conversation is Brands Manager of the Kumasi-based club, Kennedy Boakye Ansah.
Speaking to 3Sports, he revealed that the club was allegedly faced with death threats before the game started in Basake.
“We will file an official complaint to the GFA. We will see whatever decision the FA will take.
“Like i mentioned, we are no longer interested in Ghana football. They told us: either we lose the game [against Basake Holy Stars] or they kill someone.”
The final verdict on the incident at Basake will be passed by the Ghana Football Association, who are expected to award three points to Basake Holy Stars, deeming the game a forfeit by Nations FC.
