Ghana striker Jordan Ayew was on target for Crystal Palace on Friday night as the Eagles succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspurs in a crunch London derby.

The forward who began the season in scintillating form which saw him win the club’s Player of the Month for August scored from a great strike in stoppage time to pull one back for his team in a loss.

Despite having the lion’s share of possession in the first half, Tottenham failed to break the deadlock in the first half with Roy Hodgson’s men rather looking promising during the few times they got hold of the ball.

However, it was Joel Ward who mistakenly put the ball in his own net to gift Postecoglou’s men a crucial lead in the 58th minute.

Son Heung Min who has by far established himself as the team’s most essential player increased the advantage with a cool finish in the 66th minute.

Crystal Palace who were hoping to avoid back-to-back defeats having lost woefully to Newcastle United did their best to fight back but had to wait until injury time to get a consolation.

Ayew received a well-executed pass from Joachim Anderson, controlled it brilliantly, and struck it into the top right corner marking his first Premier League goal of the season for the Eagles.

Palace will now shift their focus to their next game against Burnley at Turf Moore.
