Former German international Gerald Asamoah has proposed a long-term project for the Black Stars, citing continuity as key to the team’s success.

Asamoah, who became the first black player to play for unified Germany in 2001, believes that constant changes in management hinder the team’s progress.

“What we need is continuity. We need a coach who will be there for long enough to say, ‘We have a project for five years and this is the coach we are going with,'” he said in an interview with Joy Sports. “Otto Addo came and he didn’t stay even for a year, then Chris came.”

Asamoah suggests identifying a coach and committing to them for a long-term project.

“[We need to identify] a coach and say ‘we have a project with you. In five years we want to be there.’ So then, you need to believe the coach and work with the coach.

“This is what I can say to the members [of the GFA]. It will be a good idea to keep the coach for long,” he added.

Asamoah’s comments come amidst pressure on current coach Chris Hughton following recent disappointing results, including a 1-0 loss to Comoros in a 2026 World Cup qualifier. Hughton was appointed in February, making him the country’s fourth manager since 2020.

Previous managers include Otto Addo, Charles Akonnor, and Milovan Rajevac, all of whom were let go due to poor performance.
