Borussia Dortmund pulled off a remarkable second-half comeback to secure their place in the Champions League semifinals for the first time in 11 years, overcoming Atletico Madrid with a thrilling 5-4 aggregate victory.

After trailing 2-1 from the first leg in Madrid, Dortmund wasted no time in turning the tide, with Julian Brandt and Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen finding the net in the first half from tight angles.

Atletico Madrid fought back strongly, leveling the tie at 3-3 on aggregate with Mario Hermoso’s deflected header and Angel Correa’s close-range finish.

However, Dortmund refused to relent, as Niclas Fullkrug’s looping header and Marcel Sabitzer’s drilled finish sealed their remarkable comeback and secured their spot in the semifinals.

Dortmund’s achievement is particularly impressive considering their 2-1 deficit from the first leg, highlighting their resilience and determination.

The German club’s triumph marks just the fourth time in their history that they have advanced beyond the quarterfinals in the Champions League, signaling a significant milestone for the club.

Their opponents in the semifinals will be Paris St-Germain, setting the stage for what promises to be another thrilling encounter in the prestigious tournament.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, continue their wait for a return to the final four of Europe’s premier competition, having last reached this stage seven years ago.
