Former Napoli manager Rudi Garcia is being considered as a surprising addition to Bayern Munich’s managerial shortlist following Ralf Rangnick’s rejection of the role.

Rangnick confirmed holding talks with the German giants a few days ago but opted to focus on the Australian national team where he has a task of leading them to the 2024 Euros.

According to L’Équipe, Garcia, who has previously managed clubs like Olympique de Marseille and Olympique Lyonnais, has emerged as a strong contender for the Bayern Munich job after being out of work since his departure from Napoli in November.

Garcia’s tenure at Napoli came to an end disappointingly as the club struggled to maintain their title-winning form. However, with Bayern Munich seeking a temporary solution while waiting for Xabi Alonso to become available, Garcia’s profile has reportedly garnered interest from the club’s hierarchy.

Despite options like Roberto De Zerbi and Hansi Flick not expressing interest in interim roles, Garcia’s potential appointment could provide Bayern with stability as they navigate through managerial transitions.

The development comes after current manager Thomas Tuchel announced his decision to step down at the end of the season, sparking internal discussions within the club.

While Bayern Munich missed out on domestic glory this season, including relinquishing their 11-year dominance in the Bundesliga, they remain in contention for the UEFA Champions League. A thrilling 2-2 draw against Real Madrid in the first leg of the semi-finals keeps their hopes alive for European success.

As Bayern Munich seek to secure a trophy amid managerial changes, the potential addition of Rudi Garcia to their shortlist adds intrigue to their search for Tuchel’s successor.
