In a time of turmoil for Asante Kotoko, former coach CK Akonnor has called upon the club’s loyal supporters to exercise patience with current manager Prosper Narteh Ogum, drawing comparisons to the journey of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

The Porcupine Warriors find themselves grappling with a difficult phase, currently lying in eighth place in the Ghana Premier League standings after a string of disappointing results, including four losses and a solitary draw in their last five matches.

Despite the mounting pressure on Ogum to reverse the team’s fortunes, Akonnor remains steadfast in his belief in the coach’s capabilities.

Speaking candidly, Akonnor emphasised the need for unity and understanding among the Kotoko faithful during these trying times.

“I urge the fans to exercise patience,” Akonnor expressed in an interview with Akoma FM. “Ogum has a proven track record and we have faith in him to make things right. While the coach shoulders much of the criticism, it’s essential for the players to heed his instructions and elevate their performance.”

Akonnor’s appeal for patience extends beyond the immediate challenges faced by Kotoko, as he draws parallels with the managerial journey of Mikel Arteta at Arsenal and even that of Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp.

Acknowledging the success achieved by teams that have shown unwavering support and patience towards their coaches, Akonnor points to Arteta’s tenure at Arsenal and Jurgen Klopp’s transformative impact at Liverpool.

“We’ve witnessed how patience can yield remarkable results,” Akonnor remarked. “Arsenal’s faith in Arteta and Liverpool’s backing of Klopp exemplify the value of time and patience. Perhaps Ogum requires more time to implement his vision and steer Kotoko to success.”

With the next league fixture looming, Asante Kotoko prepare to face Nsoatreman FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday night.
