Kwesi Nyantakyi has expressed his commitment to leverage the connections and experience gained during his sports administration tenure for the country’s betterment.

Nyantakyi, who led the Ghana Football Association from 2005 until his resignation following the Anas Aremeyaw Anas expose in 2018, revealed his aspirations to contest the vacant parliamentary seat in Ejisu following the passing of John Kumah, the former Member of Parliament for the constituency.

In an interview with Onua TV, Nyantakyi emphasised the importance of political guidance and highlighted his achievements in sports, including leading Ghana’s Black Stars to their first-ever World Cup appearance in 2006.

“Politics is the ultimate. In all we do…you need political guidance,” he said.

“I have excelled in Sports. You can’t mention three or four people who are famous in sports in Ghana without adding me. I have reached the pinnacle of my career in sports.

He noted that he had paid his dues in Sports and would rather consider leading in a broader sector than just football.

“Apart from Ohene Djan, no one has ever reached where I did in sports. No Ghanaian has served on the FIFA Council. I was the second person after Ohene Djan in the 1960s.”

“I want to use the knowledge, experience, and connections that I have acquired for political influence and help the people of this country,” Nyantakyi stated, underscoring his motivation to contribute to national development through political engagement.

During his days as GFA president, the 55-year-old was the owner of Wa All Stars now Legon Cities.

He also served as a FIFA Council Member as well as the Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Nyantakyi after resigning from all his positions in 2018, has battled legally to clear himself.
