Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan is confident that Otto Addo’s second stint with the Black Stars could unfold good results should he be given the time to properly rebuild his team.

Otto Addo led the BlackStars to its fourth World Cup appearance in 2022 by overcoming Nigeria in the final qualification stage, yet fell short in the group stages of the tournament and parted ways with Ghana as he had a contract with Borussia Dortmund at the time.

However, Addo was given another opportunity by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) on a long-term basis to lead the team after the Black Stars’ disastrous showdown at the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

However, he got off to a poor start losing 2-1 to Nigeria and drawing 2-2 with Uganda in the recent international friendlies.

Gyan however is hopeful that Otto Addo can turn the situation around in this new era, believing the team is different from that of 2022 and the new coach if given time, can massively improve his side.

“it’s a different atmosphere and different players. Although he has worked with some of the players, I think it’s still a process,” he told Asempa FM.

“He also came with a new staff so it’s a different era. Let’s see what he also has for us. We will support him through his rebuilding to see where he can take us. Ghanaians will be the ones to judge what he has done so I think we should give him time to rebuild his team”, he said in an interview with Asempa FM.

Otto Addo has a tough test ahead of him, as Ghana take on Mali in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Bamako.

Although he is yet to record a victory with the team after his return, there have been some positives in the Black Stars’ overall play, and time will tell as to whether Addo’s appointment was the right one.
