It’s not often that top clubs make it to major cup finals and fail to win the trophy six times in a row.

However, Chelsea has managed to do just that, setting an unwanted record in the process.

Their latest defeat, a 2-1 loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, marked their sixth consecutive domestic cup final loss, a streak that began in 2019.

Under Maurizio Sarri, Chelsea lost the EFL Cup final to Manchester City in a thrilling 4-3 penalty shootout.

The following year, Frank Lampard’s side fell short in the FA Cup final, losing 2-1 to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

In 2021, Chelsea suffered yet another FA Cup final defeat, this time falling 1-0 to Leicester City.

Thomas Tuchel’s departure and Graham Potter’s arrival in the summer of 2022 failed to reverse Chelsea’s fortunes in domestic cups.

In fact, things got worse, as the Blues lost both the EFL Cup and FA Cup finals to Liverpool, who completed a historic double.

Speaking on TV3’s Monday night magazine show, Sports Station, Bill Eshun expressed his concerns about Chelsea’s dismal record in domestic cup finals.

“Chelsea’s form in domestic cup finals is not a good look, and considering the circumstances of this game, where Klopp had many key players injured, Pochettino will be really disappointed. I really cannot tell which trophy they can win right now,” he said.

Chelsea currently sit in 11th place in the Premier League table with 35 points, leaving them with little chance of winning the league title.

Their only remaining hope for silverware this season is the FA Cup, where they face Leeds United in the 5th round on Wednesday.
