Fifa bans Kwesi Nyantakyi for life

World football-governing body Fifa has handed former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi a life ban from all football-related activities. The activities have to do with “administrative, sports or any other” at both national and international levels. He has also been fined the Swiss Franc equivalent of almost $500,000. “The decision was notified to Mr Nyantakyi today, and the ban comes into force immediately,” a release by the Independent Ethics Committee’s Adjudicatory Chamber said on Tuesday. This comes after investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas released an exposé in June about graft within the Association. The exposé saw Mr Nyantakyi at the center though other Executive Committee members of the erstwhile GFA were also captured. [caption id="attachment_102904" align="alignnone" width="624"] Mr Nyantakyi was secretly recorded in a false deal in the documentary[/caption] The documentary film was entitled ‘Number 12: When Misconduct and Greed Become the Norm’. Mr Nyantakyi, who was a member of the FIFA Council, had to resign his position. He also resigned as the First Vice President of the Confederation of African Football (Caf). The Adjudicatory Chamber of Fifa’s Ethics Committee later handed him a 90-day ban as investigations were immediately launched. The ban was later extended by 45 days. “The adjudicatory chamber found Mr Nyantakyi guilty of having violated art. 19 (Conflicts of interest), art. 21 (Bribery and corruption) and art. 22 (Commission) of the FIFA Code of Ethics, 2012 edition,” the release noted. “As a consequence, Mr Nyantakyi is banned for life from all football-related activities (administrative, sports or any other) at both national and international level.” Ghana football is currently under the superintendence of a four-member Normalisation Committee.
