Ampem Darkoa Ladies face disappointment in the CAF Women’s Champions League as their dream of reaching the final faded on Wednesday evening.

The Ghanaian champions lost a thrilling semi-final clash against Morocco’s SC Casablanca, concluding in a dramatic 3-2 penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw in regular and extra time at San Pedro’s Laurent Pokou Stadium.

Making history in their debut appearance in Africa’s premier women’s football club competition, both Ampem Darkoa and SC Casablanca had showcased impressive performances in Cote d’Ivoire. The early minutes saw Comfort Yeboah opening the scoring for Darkoa from the penalty spot. However, an own goal from Yeboah levelled the score for Casablanca in the 28th minute.

Undeterred, Ampem Darkoa regained the lead with a stunning strike by Jennifer Owusuaa in the 39th minute. Casablanca responded in the second half, earning a penalty that Agueissa Diarra converted in the 56th minute. Despite numerous opportunities, neither side could secure a winning goal in regular or extra time.

The match concluded with a tense penalty shootout, resulting in a 3-2 victory for SC Casablanca. They advance to face Mamelodi Sundowns in the final, while Ampem Darkoa Ladies will battle for the bronze medal against AS Far.
