Ghanaian music duo Michael and Tony Boafo, members of the popular group DopeNation have disclosed the sour relationship with their father while growing up.

The twin brothers shared the compelling story during an interview on The Delay Show on February 4, 2024.

According to the brothers, they were detached from their father and never had any paternal relationship with him.

The Boafo brothers who were born out of wedlock said they only met and got to know their father when they had turned fourteen years old.

They recounted that their mother had relocated to Takoradi from Abeka due to work purposes and none of the family members knew back then that their father was based in the same town.

They said their father’s presence only came to light when they relocated to Takoradi because of their mother’s work.

“Our mother used to work for Unilever. Our dad worked as a principal at Takoradi Technical Institute, and she resided in a guest house…it was when she started working in Takoardi and she got to know that he was there,” they told Delay.

The brothers noted that they were only bothered by the absence of their father “when they see friends with their dads or when asked about their father.”

Describing their initial impressions of meeting their father, they found the experience “interesting.”

Despite their father’s long absence in their lives, the duo said they managed to bond with their father after they met him.

However, their stay at Takoradi was short-lived and they moved back to Accra. This, they said replaced the sour relationship with their father.

“We did not have that connection. We had an interview where we spoke about our Dad and the news got to him and we had to go see him and try to make up for the lost times.”
“Right now we are looking at going back to visit,” they added.
