The president tasked the justices to uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties, to enhance people’s confidence in the Ghanaian judiciary.
Parliament approved by consensus the nomination of Justice Yaw Apau and Gabriel Pwamang as justices of the Supreme Court of Ghana after the president nominated them few weeks back.
The President, who administrated the oath of secrecy and allegiance, said the country expected a lot from their expertise. He charged them to uphold the integrity of the supreme court and maintain the confidence reposed in the Ghanaian judiciary.
“The strength of our democracy and the rule of law has been tested on numerous occasions by both citizens and non-citizens. The citizens of Ghana, the government of Ghana, the business community and many others have very high expectations that the judgments of our highest courts must instill confidence in litigants so that all subject to a case will be assured of a fair day in court. I trust that you will satisfy the demand of your new office with integrity and valor based on the oath that you have just sworn”.
Justice Yaw Apau who spoke also on behalf of his colleague, pledged their commitment to maintain the standards of the judiciary.
“I wish to assure you your Excellency, that we shall discharge our duties with dedication, honesty, integrity, excellence and zeal as required of us as justices of the highest court of the land to make your Excellency and the good people of Ghana proud”.
Prior to their appointment, Justice Yaw Apau was an Appeals Court Judge who was appointed a sole commissioner on judgment debts whilst justice Gabriel Pwamang, a lawyer, is a former General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention, PNC.
