The hospital says the only generator set available has also broken down.
Over 200 cases are attended to at the hospital on daily basis.
Since its establishment 60 years ago, the Mampong Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital has seen little infrastructural improvement.
The power crisis has deepened the woes of the hospital, as elevators have stopped functioning with the only generator also broken down.
Consumables have to be stored in nearby health facilities.
The Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr. Mawuli Kotope Gyakobo, told journalists that emergency cases are now referred to other health facilities on the Akwapim ridge.
“We are planning also to transfer the blood in our blood bank to other hospitals where they could stock it so they don’t spoil. We have done same for our insulin for diabetes and other perishable drugs by sending them to other institutions. We also have to consider relocating the bodies in the mortuary because that also depends so much on power”.
Presenting a three hundred thousand cedis , ‘412 kva’emergency power plant funded by the assembly to the hospital, Eastern Regional Minister Antwi Boasiko Sekyere conceded the hospital was in crises.
He however mentioned that government is committed in addressing the challenges.
“I want to assure the medical staff that government will do its best to uplift this hospital; rehabilitate it and let it take its pride of place”
Traditional authorities who commended government for the intervention, further appealed to them to accelerate efforts in meeting the other needs of the hospital.
