The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) said it will soon introduce the instant billing system to allow customers access their bills as soon as the reading is done. According to management of the GWCL, the electronic billing system was piloted in June 2016 to serve customers efficiently, and is ready to be rolled out. Speaking at the maiden edition of “Water on Sunrise” on 3FM, Wednesday, Communication Manager of the GWCL, Solace Akomeah said new devices have been procured to read meters and automatically generate bills. She noted that the decision to go electronic is as a result of challenges the company encounters with the distribution of bills. “Database of all districts have been combined into a single database that is hosted in the cloud. Currently GWCL sends water bills to customers through text messages, emails, in addition to the printed water bills.” The GWCL Communication Manager said the company has put measures in place to make accessibility and payment of bills easier for customers. “We will go paperless… our customers are just going to get their bills on their phones,” she noted. ‘Water on Sunrise’ is segment on the 3FM Sunrise morning show which comes off every Wednesday at 9: 30 am providing a platform for the GWCL to educate the public.
