The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has relocated the WASSCE centre for candidates of Bright Senior High School to Ofori Panin Senior High School (OPASS) in Kukurantumi.

This follows unrests in the school after the examinations on Thursday, August 6.

The students, said to have been instigated by the proprietor of the school, attacked invigilators and supervisors as well as a Daily Graphic journalist.

“The Council strongly condemns the behaviour of the proprietor and candidates of Bright SHS as reported and wishes to caution that such unruly behaviour contravenes Section 8(1) of the WAEC Act, 2006 (Act 719) which frowns on and sanctions acts of assault on examination officials,” a statement issued by Head of the National Office of WAEC Wendy E. Addy-Lamptey said.

“In order to ensure the integrity of the examination and safeguard the lives of examination officials (Supervisors, Invigilators and WAEC officers) assigned to the centre, WAEC has decided to, in the interim, relocate the centre from Bright Senior High School to Ofori Panin Senior High School effective Saturday, 8th August, 2020.”

WAEC also says it will not hesitate to sanction the school as well as its staff and students if found culpable in the reported incident and future action.

“WAEC cautions all school authorities that it will not hesitate to take legal action against any perosn involved in compromising the integirty of the examination in any manner.”

It urged supervisors and invigilators to continue to be strict and carry out their duties without fear.
