What was expected to be a clash of the titans in the grand finale of the 2019 National Science and Maths Quiz turned out to be a walkover for the Cape Coast-based St. Augustine’s College, as there was no strong opposition to their sail to victory. Until their second win this afternoon, Augusco, as they are referred to, had squared up with five-time winners, Presec-Legon, and defending champions, St Peter’s Boys’ SHS in the finals held at the National Theatre in Accra. The Augusco boys dominated all rounds of the contest and emerged victorious with 39 points setting them apart from their main contender, Presec with 5 points. At the end of the five rounds contest, St. Augustine’s College had 39 points with, Presec Legon 34 and St. Peters 25 points. The build up to the finals was energetic for old students of the all-boys schools rooting strongly for their schools on social media and at the event grounds. The Accra-based Presec boys for instance had galvanized around the social media hashtag #LetsTalkSix, to suggest they would win the trophy for the sixth time. But when the quiz mistress, Dr. Kaufman brought the contest to an end, the blue-shirted Presecans , who had earlier inundated the auditorium had receded, leaving only pockets of them in the auditorium. The green-shirted (Augusco) supporters were the only ones visibly jeering and cheering their second championship in the National Science and Maths Quiz. By editors.3news.com
