Ghana National Gas Company has commissioned a 3-unit classroom block at Three Town Senior High School (SHS) in the Ketu South Municipality in the Volta Region.

The 3-unit classroom block will help reduce pressure on students having to learn under trees.

Three Senior High School has a student population of 1,041 and lacks infrastructure for students and other educational facilities for comfortable teaching and learning.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Assistant Headmaster for Administration, Simon Doe Avevor, who delivered a speech on behalf of Headmistress Vivianne Akosua Dzifa, was emphatic about the level of lack of facilities in the high school.

“Infrastructure development of the school has not seen a corresponding increase; the limited large size of the school contributes greatly to the lack of massive infrastructure development of the school,” he said.

“This state of affairs puts much pressure on the already inadequate infrastructure especially classroom facilities. Various heads resorted to innovative ways of solving the classroom space challenges like erecting of shades, use of canopy as classroom space and having some classes under trees,” he revealed.

According to the school authorities, the students have five classes under trees, a serious phenomenon which must be addressed immediately.

A representative from the Ghana Education Service (GES), Soglo Cyril, is of the view that Three Town Senior High School is one of the very important schools in the Ketu South municipality.

However, he mentioned, the school lacks a lot of facilities which mostly is accommodation to house most of the students.

He, therefore, called for support from authorities to continue to assist them with classroom blocks, a school bus, dining hall, kitchen among others.

“We’re so glad that today, we’re here to commission a 3-unit classroom block built by Ghana Gas Company.

“This means that, from today, we have started reducing the burdens one after the other.”

The Municipal Chief Executive of Ketu South, Maxwell Kofi Lugudor, was represented by Prince Owusu Peprah, expressing the Assembly’s gratitude to Ghana Gas and trusts that government will continue to provide educational infrastructure for schools that are in need.

“Education has been the backbone of every country and Ghana cannot be an exception and this facility here is going to serve as a purpose of restructuring the educational situation that we have in Three Town SHS.”

Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Ghana Gas Francis Augustus Badu emphasized that Ghana Gas will continue to support in the area of education, health, water and sanitation and sports.

“We at Ghana Gas will continue to give back to society the revenue we make from our natural resources and one of the communities is Three Town SHS,” he reiterated.

He further charged the students to take particular attention by ensuring that, they maintain the facility for future usage.

Three Town Senior High School was established in 1987 as community day school in the Ketu South Municipality.

The focal interest was directed to practical oriented programmes such Visual Arts, Agriculture Science and Home Economics.
