Some critics have questioned the legality of the apex court decision, which was secured by Prof Asare and has since last week sparked a debate.

The Media General Group, a leading media conglomerate in Ghana, is thus hosting Prof Kwaku Asare at its maiden MG News Lecture Series on Thursday at the Novotel Hotel to elaborate on the judgement as well as give an erudite insight into the law on touting and advertising by lawyers.

It is on the theme: “Making Sense of Ghana’s Suprme Court Ruling on the Admission Criteria to Professional Law Studies, and other Matters”.His lecture will focus on the following issues:

▪What does the Supreme Courts’ ruling mean for the admission process to Professional Legal Studies at the Ghana School of Law?

▪Did the Supreme Court Err in Law by directing that the “unconstitutional” admission criteria should be applied to the current 2017-2018 batch of students?

▪Will the Supreme Courts’ recommendation for a quota system to be instituted for admissions into the Professional Legal Studies guarantee an unfettered right of equal educational opportunity and access to facilities?

The lecture will also address the following thorny issues:

▪The law prohibiting “Touting and Advertisement” by lawyers: L.I. 613

▪Ghana’s dual nationality law and the Constitutional protection against discrimination

Has the work of the Constitution Review Commission (instituted by Former President John Evans Atta Mills) been a waste of time and money?
