Kotoko beat Hearts on penalties to lift 2017 President’s Cup

Asante Kotoko may have turned out the luckier on Monday after the 2017 President’s Cup was re-scheduled on Sunday due to the heavy rains.

The match was at 1-1 in the 67th minute when referee William Agbovi halted play.

The Porcupine Warriors had opened the scoring from the spot through Sadick Adams but Vincent Atinga equalised in the second half from a set piece.

Talks to have the match replayed on Monday broke down a number of times as the two sides claimed they were not prepared for such a schedule.

On Monday when the match was replayed, there was no goal in full regulation time and it went back to shoot-outs, through which Kotoko got Sunday’s goal.

Hearts missed their first two kicks, giving Kotoko an advantage to win the day and the mantle fell on Adams, who converted the fourth and, eventually, the final kick to clinch the trophy for Kotoko.
