The leadership of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association Ghana (CETAG) will meet on Monday, August 19 to vote on whether or not to suspend the ongoing strike action.
This is the outcome of a meeting between the leaders and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia on August 16.
“We shall meet again on Monday to vote on two motions tabled in conjunction with the meeting with the Vice President yesterday,” the National President of CETAG, Prince Obeng-Himah told editors.3news.com
“Since there was no consensus today to suspend the strike, council members will have to meet with their constituents over the weekend so that we can vote on it on Monday,” he added.
“Each council member shall vote to decide whether or not the strike should be suspended based on the assurances given by the Vice President’s Office yesterday at the Jubilee House,” Mr Obeng-Himah stated.
He said, “The outcome shall be communicated by close of day on Monday.”
CETAG members have been on strike since June 14. This has compelled members of the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) to call for the schools to be shut due to non-academic activity., but the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission has kicked against it.
