UCC SRC hosts impactful blood donation drive

In a life-saving collaboration between the University of Cape Coast’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) and Apostolic Student Association (APOSA), a highly successful Blood Donation Drive was held on June 3, 2025, at the Parliament Grounds.

The event, themed “Give the Gift of Life,” drew hundreds of compassionate students and staff, all motivated to make a tangible difference in healthcare through blood donation.

Nursing Officer Mavis Adei Djanie, who also serves as the Head of the SRC Health Committee, emphasized the critical importance of the initiative.

“We’re not just donating blood, we’re giving hope, sustaining life, and strengthening the healthcare system. The need for safe blood is constant, and this is our way of rising to the call,” she stated.

Bernard Nabe, a Master of Nursing student and Co-Head of the SRC Health Committee, highlighted the student-led effort behind the drive.

“This event is a testament to what committed student leadership can do. We are proud to support the Ghana Health Service by contributing to blood security,” he said, encouraging students to be consistent donors beyond the event.

Abraham Norman Nortey, a clinical medical student and SRC President, praised the unity and purpose behind the drive.

“This is what student leadership should look like mobilizing resources and people for the greater good. We stand for a UCC where service, health, and humanity intersect. Today, we’ve shown that when we come together, we save lives,” he remarked passionately.

The 62nd SRC administration, under the banner of “Nyame Ayɛ”, reaffirmed its commitment to health advocacy and community support.

The event not only provided life-saving donations but also fostered a culture of social responsibility and solidarity on campus.
