The Ministry of Education has expressed its profound condolences over the tragic loss of lives of three students of Nkwanta Senior High through a shooting incident.
The incident involves two female students of the school who were shot on Thursday and a male student who was also hit by a stray bullet on Friday.
The unfortunate incident was a result of the resurgence of a tribal conflict in the area.
The Ministry in a statement released via its Facebook page commiserated with the families of the deceased, students and staff of the Nkwanta SHS, and all affected persons in the area.
The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu commended the authorities of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Oti Region for the swift action to temporarily close down the Nkwanta Senior High School until further notice.
The Ministry looks forward to a rapid and peaceful resolution to the conflict to enable students to return to a safe learning environment.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) on Friday, June 27 ordered the closure of Nkwanta Senior High School in the Oti Region after the loss of the lives of three students.
In a memo confirming the closure, the Acting Regional Director of Education cited the deteriorating security situation and the need to “safeguard the lives of students and staff.”
