Government says it is focused on building its human capital by shaping the educational system to enable young people utilise modern technology to contribute to economic growth. President Akufo-Addo who said this assured his government will capitalise on modern technology to improve the economy. “We have come to a major crossroad in Ghanaian development where we are looking to take some measures that can enable our economy to improve itself,” he said when vice president of the World Bank Africa, Hafez Ghanem, called on him at the Jubilee House on Monday “The fragile raw material producing economy has been essential to our economic structure, but it can no longer serve our needs,” he said, and underscored the need to modernize the economy to produce things here. Nana Akufo-Addo said “that is where we want to focus our attention and our energy”. For his part, Mr Ghanem tasked Africa to focus on building a solid human capital in the area of technology to guarantee a future of efficient job creation. He is in the country on a three day visit to Ghana. His discussions with President Akufo-Addo centered on microeconomics, fiscal and monetary policies as well as opportunities to invest in education and the booming digital economy. The World Bank Africa Vice President is expected to participate in an African CSO and parliamentary dialogue series connecting some 15 countries across sub Saharan Africa and launch World Bank’s report profiting from parity unlocking the potential of women business’s in Africa.
