Tension at Wassa Fiase over installment of rival paramount chief

The demonstrators want a government intervention before the issue escalates into clashes
Members of the Asomakoma royal family of Wassa Fiase were on Tuesday morning clad in red in a demonstration to send a warning to a rival family over the planned installment of a paramount chief for the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area. According to the family, the Area already has a paramount chief from Benso but plans are underway to enstool another person as paramount chief without the knowledge of the queen mother and elders. The demonstration ended with a petition to the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and the police.
A petition was handed to the Chieftaincy Ministry after the demonstration
Some of the placards the demonstrating family members wielded read: ‘Stop Your Selfish Agenda, Kingmakers’, ‘Benso Asomakoma Royal Family is not Divided’, ‘We Want Peace at Wassa Fiase’ and ‘Fiaseman needs Development’. They have vowed to resist any move to impose another paramount chief on them. Security was beefed up at the Tarkwa Traditional Council, where the petition was presented.
