The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has announced that some major streets of the capital will be temporarily blocked on Saturday, September 5 to allow smooth management of human and vehicular traffic during the maiden Millennium Marathon.

Thousands of local and international athletes are expected to take part in the sports event.

A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Effia Tenge, listed the Atta Mills High Street, Giffard Road, Liberation Road, Liberia Road Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, Cantonments Road and Angola Road among the streets that will be blocked.

“Motorists are, therefore, implored to note the arrangements and plan for alternative routes before embarking on their journeys.”

The public is also entreated to support the police to make the event a successful one.

The forecourt of the State House and surroundings of the Accra Sports Stadium have been earmarked as car parks.

“Any inconvenience is deeply regretted,” the statement concluded.
