The newly-enstooled La Leshie Mantse in the Ladadekotopon Municipality, Accra, Nii Tettey Ofro Osro I, has urged all pupils of the various schools in hos traditional area, to commit themselves to pursuing their education.

He said this in a statement he read at a donation ceremony at the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Education Office in Accra on Thursday, 20 January 2021,

“Education will keep our girls from prioritising early child-bearing and Kpodziemo, over their studies to attain greater heights in order, to contribute their quota to our community in future.

“I urge you all pupils of the various schools, to commit yourselves to pursuing your education. Avoid vices that will mar or destroy this educational dream including smoking illegal substances and engaging in sexual relationships that can lead to teenage pregnancies-my dear young girls.”

Below is his full statement…

Head teachers, teachers, staff and pupils, it gives me great joy to be here today, to familiarise myself with your schools following my enstoolment as La-leshie Mantse.

As a person who is passionate about education, and an advocate for girl-child education, the education of the people of La is a major priority.

Education will keep our girls from prioritising early child-bearing and Kpodziemo, over their studies to attain greater heights in order, to contribute their quota to our community in future.

I urge you all pupils of the various schools, to commit yourselves to pursuing your education. Avoid vices that will mar or destroy this educational dream including smoking illegal substances and engaging in sexual relationships that can lead to teenage pregnancies-my dear young girls.

Kpodziemo as a teenager, is not an achievement, do not stop yourself from becoming what you can become tomorrow.

B.B King said, and I quote: “The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.” So, always remember that tomorrow begins for you now, it begins here- where you find yourselves as pupils in your various schools.

Study hard, obey your teachers and parents. You are the future of La, the future is great and will require that each one of you contributes to it and that can only happen if you excel in your academics.

May I use this opportunity to commend the teachers and staff of the various schools for a good job done so far, towards securing the future of the children of La. Today’s visit marks the beginning of a relationship between my stool and your schools. Together, with the help of relevant stakeholders and God, we can make the schools in the La Community, stand out.

I therefore pledge my support to ensuring the growth of education in our community. My doors are wide open to receive your concerns and suggestions on how best we can move education forward and keep our children especially our girl-child in school.

Our boy-child will also identify that, there is reward in attaining an education instead of engaging in criminal activities and the smoking of illegal drugs. Our children will realise that they no longer have an excuse not to go to school, as the future looks bright for La.

As proof of my pledge to support the education of the future leaders of La, accept these stationaries as the beginning of greater things to come.  I hope to establish a fund to support needy but brilliant students who excel in the BECE from your various schools throughout their time in SHS.

One will ask, how is Nii going to support brilliant but needy students, when we already have free SHS in existence. You will agree with me, that, Nii can still support them by catering to their needs that are not covered under the free SHS scheme such as provisions, personal belongings, among others just, to ensure that parents have no excuse to stop their needy but brilliant children, especially the girl-child from climbing up the educational ladder.

I also hope to further the cause of the upcoming future generation of La, with programmes, to enhance teaching and learning outside school hours. Soon, you shall be informed of the details.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to be here today.

Long live La!

May God bless our community and make her future generations stand out!

Thank you!
