Black Meteors skipper Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has promised Ghanaians to expect the best from the team as they prepare ahead of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be held in Morocco.

Following the announcement of a provisional 29-man squad, the team left Ghana for Egypt to continue their preparations for the tournament on Monday.

The Swiss-based forward who has played an integral role in the team’s qualification was positive ahead of their trip assuring Ghanaians to remain optimistic as the competition draws near.

“In this team we don’t talk much. We do all our talking on the pitch and we are confident that we will make ourselves and the nation proud,” Barnieh said.

Ibrahim Tanko’s men will be joined by three more Black Stars players—Kamaldeen Sulemana, Ernest Nuamah and Ranford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer who are preparing with the senior national team for the crucial AFCON qualifier against Madagascar on Sunday.

The Black Meteors will play a pre-tournament friendly with Egypt on Thursday as part of a few scheduled warm-up matches to keep them in shape for the tournament.

They will compete with the host of the tournament—Morocco, Congo and Guinea in Group A.

With an Olympic spot available for the first three at the end of the tournament, the Ghana U-23 team will aim to bounce back to the global championship having missed out since 2004.

The tournament will take place in Morocco from June 24 to July 7, 2023.
