Gilbert Ampiah, a 15-year-old is making his mark in Ekumfi Atwa, a village in the Central Region, Ghana. In the last few months, his status has changed from a kid who needs protecting to a high jumper with a high ceiling.
In May this year, he beat able-bodied athletes in interschool and district competitions at the sport, earning admiration from family and friends.
He has his eyes set on representing the nation at the World Para Athletics Championships next year and possibly becoming the first Ghanaian to win a medal at that stage.
